Perseid Meteor Shower Viewing
August 12, 2026
8:00pm - 1:00am

Grab your lawn chairs and blankets and celebrate summer against the backdrop of the Perseid Meteor peak!

The Perseids provide one of the best shows for stargazers in the Northern hemisphere as debris from the comet Swift-Tuttle burn up in the Earth’s atmosphere.

This year’s event aligns with the new moon, which will offer dark skies and excellent viewing conditions. The greatest number of meteors will fall from midnight to dawn.

Event Activities:

  • Join a naturalist-led dusk nature walk with owl calling and a bat search
  • Tackle a round of artist-designed mini golf at Cranbrook Art Museum
  • Toss a beachball and play summer games
  • Go on a scale Planet Walk showing the surprising distance of planets from the Sun – and each other
  • Step into a live-narrated planetarium program with comet and meteor focus
  • Check out hands-on astronomy-related activities
  • Chat with members of Warren Astronomical Society and scan the skies through their telescopes
