Are you ready to ramp up your Scouting program? Our workshops draw on the exhibits, collections, and resources of Cranbrook Institute of Science to bring your program to life!

We offer badge workshops for Brownie and Junior Girl Scouts; and Tiger, Wolf, Bear, and Webelos Cub Scouts.

Interested in spending the night at the museum? Many of our Saturday Science Overnights are badge-aligned!

Special Cranbrook Institute of Science patches are available for $5.

Sky is the Limit
Explore the night sky, learn about constellations, chat with astronomers, use viewing tools, and enjoy a show in the Acheson Planetarium. Fulfills badge requirements 2-8.

Finding Your Way
Scouts investigate the unexpectedly fascinating topic of maps, from latitudes to compass roses to topographical lines, then try their hand at making their own. Next, they will learn to navigate by compass – can they complete the compass scavenger hunt? Fulfills all badge requirements (1-4).

Engineer
What do engineers do? Many things! Scouts explore engineering principles through build projects and experimentation. They’ll investigate scale models using blueprints and architect’s rulers, then make – and construct from – their own. Fulfills all badge requirements (1-4).

Into the Woods
Take a deep dive into trees, which play a vibrant yet understated role in our environment. Dissect and examine plants to better understand their parts. Explore what stories tree rings can tell. Investigate common local trees to understand the benefit they bring. Fulfills badge requirements 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7.

Bugs
Join us for a live bug program that celebrates the wonders of these amazing creatures. Touch a cockroach, hold an exoskeleton, and see impressive examples up close. Learn about camouflage and other survival strategies while designing your own butterfly wings, and head outside to see bugs in the wild! Fulfills all badge requirements (Steps 1-5).

Scout Workshop Fee Details

Price includes museum admission.

  • Scouts/Children/Adults $20/person.
  • Special Cranbrook Institute of Science patches are available for $5.
  • Cranbrook Institute of Science membership does not apply to workshop fee.
  • Registration cutoff occurs 10 calendar days before the workshop.
    • Programs with less than 10 total attendees may be canceled and refunds issued.
