Bugs
Join us for a live bug program that celebrates the wonders of these amazing creatures! Touch bugs, hold exoskeletons, and see impressive insect and arachnid examples up close. Learn about camouflage and other survival strategies, and why bugs choose the homes that they do. Make a poster about your favorite bug, then design your own butterfly wings. Next, head outside to see bugs in the wild! Fulfills all badge requirements (Steps 1-5).

Home Scientist
Science is all around us! Have a hair-raising experience with a Van de Graff generator to kick off your exploration of static electricity, then experiment with film canister rockets, density, slime, and homemade ice cream. Fulfills all badge requirements (Steps 1-5).

Space Science Adventurer
Explore the planets in the Acheson Planetarium, make a constellation finder to track the stars, use tools to see better, experiment with Moon phases, learn a mnemonic, and take a Planet Walk to see how far each planet really is from the Sun – and each other. Fulfills Steps 1-4.

Journey: WOW! Wonders of Water – Journey in a Day
Explore the wonderful resource that is water! Use games and activities to learn the importance of water, visit with our live Sea Lamprey, then head outside to search for macroinvertebrates in the pond. Decide and plan your Take Action project as you earn your LOVE Water, SAVE Water and SHARE Water awards, as well as the WOW award.

Detective
Begin by honing the most important detective skill – observation! Next, experiment with code communication, evidence investigation, and fingerprint analysis. Now it’s time for the crime scene! Fulfills all badge requirements (Steps 1-5).

Does your Scout enjoy detective work? Consider our CSI Evening Program or CSI Overnight, which fulfill all badge requirements and much, much more!
Space Science Investigator
Begin by getting acquainted with the night sky in a live-narrated program in the Acheson Planetarium. Next, go on a Planet Walk to better understand the distance between the Sun and the planets, and between the Earth and Moon. Create your own unit of measure, find your age on other planets, and make your own constellation-finding tool for stargazing. Fulfills Steps 1-4.

Scout Workshop Fee Details
Price includes museum admission.
- Scouts/Children/Adults $20/person (Brownie Journey in a Day WOW! Wonders of Water is $40/person) • Special Cranbrook Institute of Science patches are available for $5.
- Cranbrook Institute of Science membership does not apply to Scout workshop fees.
- Registration cutoff occurs 10 calendar days before the workshop.
- Programs with less than 10 total attendees may be canceled and refunds issued.
Guest Cancellations
- There are no refunds for Scout workshops. Any cancellations made at least 10 days prior to the event date may request a one-time transfer credit to another event prior to May 10, 2025, pending availability.
