Leonid Meteor Shower Overnight

Saturday, November 15, 2025
7:30pm – 8:00am

Join us for a very special overnight experience as we scan the skies for meteors! The Leonid Meteor Shower will be near-peak and a thin waning crescent moon will offer excellent viewing conditions. With clear skies, 10-15 bright, fast-moving meteors should be visible every hour!

At CIS, outside lights will be dimmed and a large, elevated viewing platform will provide the broadest and darkest view of the night sky.

Doors open at 7:15pm for check in, and programming, shows and activities run from 7:30-10:00pm. Guests may:

  • Join an interactive flashlight tour of the Mineral Gallery
  • Investigate the asteroid that toppled the dinosaurs
  • Embark on a Planet Walk to experience the scale of the Solar System
  • Stop in for a meteor-focused planetarium show
  • Join a naturalist-guided Bat and Owl hunt
  • Explore self-guided activities and a meteor scavenger hunt
  • Take a sneak peek for meteors!

We’ll pause the festivities at 10:00pm to set up your camp among the exhibits, so it’s ready when you want to go to bed.

At 10:30pm the focus will turn to the skies. The outdoor lights will be lowered, and stargazing will be available on top of the specially darkened parking structure. Visit the Observatory for an up-close look or join us outside with snacks and local astronomers. Bring blankets or lawn chairs and let the show begin!

Food and drink will be available for purchase in the Reflections Café.

Tickets are $110 for non-members and $93 for Members.
