Cranbrook Institute of Science is celebrating Charles Darwin’s Birthday! This event features a variety of hands-on activities centered around Darwin’s work. Be a biologist and classify species by their physical characteristics, see how the predator/prey relationship creates an evolutionary arms race with each trying to one-up the other, and learn how genes influence the lives of creatures large and small. Institute geologist and paleontologist John Zawiskie discusses Darwin’s On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection and how subsequent fossil record research has altered modern views on extinction and diversification. As icing on the birthday cake, the Institute will also have on display its rare first edition On the Origin of Species. Join us for this unique glimpse into the life of Darwin!  Darwin’s Birthday events are free with Museum admission.
