An international crew of astronauts is about to embark on the first interplanetary journey in history, the first manned mission to the surface of Mars. Reporter Miles O'Brien is reporting live from his Space Headquarters TV Studio in New York while events unfold for the crew on their 1001-day long mission. We will witness firsthand their brave attempts to put human footprints on Mars and return safely to Earth. This journey is made possible by the biggest engineering feat ever and loaded with scientific experiments. The explorers will be extending our knowledge of Mars and will be learning whether or not mankind has a future among the stars. Experience the thrill of the grandest mission of exploration ever undertaken!
Beginning May 2, 2025, this show will also include Always Above: Space is Closer than you Think. This 12-minute journey will take audiences from the depths of the ocean to thousands of miles into space where they will learn about the different types of satellites, the three main orbits in which they travel and how Guardians in the Space Force defend this ultimate high ground.
Always Above also demonstrates how close space is from a physical perspective. Only 62 miles above us is where space officially begins. Orbiting our planet right now are thousands of satellites including communication satellites, weather satellites and Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites that allow us to communicate, shop, track storm systems and find our way. And while many view space as a peaceful domain, these satellites are constantly being challenged by pieces of space debris as well as other threats.
