Be the first to experience Cranbrook Institute of Science’s newest traveling exhibition, Mystery of the Mayan Medallion! Step into the world of an archaeological expedition deep in the jungles of Palenque, Mexico, where a team of explorers has mysteriously disappeared. Follow their clues, solve ancient puzzles, and uncover the secrets of a lost civilization in this hands-on, family-friendly adventure.
Members will also enjoy an exclusive first showing of the stunning planetarium film, Mayan Archaeoastronomy: Observers of the Universe, which brings to life the Maya’s remarkable understanding of the cosmos and its influence on their architecture and beliefs.
Round out your visit with authentic Mexican hot chocolate and Mayan-inspired desserts, available to sample throughout the afternoon.
After Dark: Love, Sex and Attraction

Join us this Valentine’s Day to celebrate Love, Sex and Attraction, as scientifically seen in nature, history and more! Bring your partner or your friends for this unique 21+ event, to enjoy intriguing mini lectures, interactive activities, games, challenges and more.
Cocktails, food and tasty treats will be available for purchase from 7:00-10:00pm at the bar and Reflections Café.
Also, view the Institute’s rare first edition of On the Origin of Species, Charles Darwin’s landmark 1859 publication that introduced the theory of evolution by natural selection and forever transformed our understanding of the natural world. This exceptional volume will be on public display from February 7–15, 2026.

Join us for the first ever Crafts & Drafts event at Cranbrook Institute of Science! Sip a cold Michigan brew from our outdoor beer garden and wander through the museum as it's transformed into a marketplace of nature-inspired and science-themed arts and crafts.
Discover local artisans offering everything from art prints and home goods to pottery, garden décor, upcycled creations and more- all thoughtfully crafted to celebrate the natural world.
All ages are welcome and the event is included with museum admission.

Crafts and Drafts call for Vendors
Artisans wanted! Cranbrook Institute of Science is hosting its first-ever Crafts & Drafts event, and we’re looking for creative makers to join us.
If your work connects to nature, science, or the natural world in any way, this event is for you. We welcome art and craft vendors of all mediums, including prints, jewelry, ceramics, woodworking, textiles, upcycled goods, floral art and more.

Each vendor will receive table space inside the museum, where guests can shop while enjoying a beer for our beer garden.

Spring Into Science

Celebrate the arrival of Spring with three fun-filled days of learning about our local ecosystems! Explore the natural world through interactive activities, drop-in crafts, and engaging science experiences designed for all ages. Meet local environmental and conservation organizations at activity and informational tables, where families can learn about wildlife, sustainability, and ways to get involved in protecting the planet in their own backyards.
From exploring ecosytems to creating nature-inspired art, Spring Into Science is a great way to learn, discover, and welcome the season together!
All activities are free with museum admission.
