Scouting at Cranbrook Custom Workshops

Salmon in the Classroom comes to CranbrookThe Salmon in the Classroom initiative provides Scouts with an opportunity to explore concepts like the water cycle and the Great Lakes ecosystems.  They will be exposed to a variety of hands-on, interactive programs to assist in completing a variety of requirements.  As they work on their requirements, they have the opportunity to become future stewards of the natural resources and informed citizens of conservation for the Great Lakes.  Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts will be able to work with the Salmon in the Classroom initiative through any of our workshops. Check back with our web site frequently to find out which programs will include this new opportunity!  If a group was interested in a stand-alone “Salmon in the Classroom” workshop it would be a 45 minute class based on availability, with a minimum of 10 Scouts at a cost of $15/Scout.

Badge on Your Own
Does your group want to visit the museum on its own? Do you ever wonder if any of the exhibits at the Institute might help Scouts fulfill a specific badge requirement? This self- guided program allows you to earn a badge while exploring the Institute of Science! Our staff has developed activities for a variety of programs to guide Scouts through the museum. Additionally, take-home activities are provided to complete badge requirements. Program fees include the cost of general admission and activities.

Astronomy Programs
For a truly unique experience, we can bring stargazing to your troop or pack with our STARLAB portable planetarium. During each session, our educator will give tours of the current sky using the STARLAB’s star projector, which features bright stars, constellations, planets and the moon. This program requires a 22 x 22 foot floor space with minimum of 10 feet of ceiling height. Minimum 25 Scouts at $12 per Scout or sibling.

Give your troop the ultimate experience with a private screening of the program of your choice in Cranbrook’s planetarium. The planetarium is available for rental every Saturday and Sunday at 10 and 10:45am. Planetarium shows are approximately 40 minutes in length. Planetarium rental fee is $350 for up to 75 people per session and includes general admission to the Institute.
