Opening Date and Updated Museum Hours
Q. When will the Institute of Science reopen?
A. We will reopen with pre-registration Wednesday, July 15, to members only, through Sunday, July 19. On Tuesday, July 21 we will reopen to all guests.
Q. Who will have access to the museum when it reopens?
A. The Institute of Science will be open to members only for the first week (July 15-19) it has been deemed safe to reopen. We will begin welcoming all guests to the Institute of Science, Tuesday, July 21. The general public will enjoy free general admission July 21-26, 2020.
Q. Will the Institute have updated hours?
A. Tuesday - Thursday: 10:00am - 12:00pm; 12:30 - 2:30pm; and 3:00 - 5:00pm. Friday: 10:00am - 12:00pm; 12:30 - 2:30pm; 3:00 - 5:00pm; and 6:00 - 9:00pm. Saturday and Sunday: 12:00 - 2:00pm and 2:30 - 5:00pm
Q. Will you be open on Mondays this summer?
A. The Institute of Science will remain closed on Mondays this summer. We will be open Tuesday - Sunday.
Pre-registration and Purchasing Tickets
Q. Can I purchase tickets online?
A. Beginning July 15, 2020, all members will be required to pre-register online. Beginning July 21, 2020, all guests (including members) will be required to pre-register for time slots through the Institute of Science website, and if you are not currently a member, you will need to pay general museum admission upon arrival. Admission to the Institute of Science will be free for all guests July 21-26, 2020.
Q. Can I just show up to visit the Institute of Science?
A. Guests will be required to pre-register online in advance of their visit to the Institute of Science, and can register for specific time slots. Please visit our online reservation form to secure your preferred time slot.
Q. Can I pre-register on-site?
A. If the Institute of Science is not at capacity, guests can pre-register on-site using their cell phone, or by calling the front desk, and will be required to provide the first and last name of every adult in their party and the number of people in their party. If the Institute is at capacity we will ask that you register for an upcoming time slot.
Q. What will be required of me when I pre-register?
A. We ask that you provide us with the first and last name of every adult in your party and the number of people in your party when you register.
Social Distancing and Cleaning Procedures
Q. What is the capacity level at any given time at the museum?
A. The capacity, at all times, will be limited to 100 guests.
Q. How will CIS help guests maintain six-feet of social distancing throughout the museum?
A. There will be signage located throughout the museum reminding people to maintain social distancing as they visit the Institute of Science. We encourage our guests to be respectful of the other people around them, and be mindful of respecting each other's space and maintaining six-feet of distance.
Q. Will guests be required to wear a mask?
A. Yes, all guests aged 3 and older visiting the Institute of Science will be required to wear a mask that covers their mouth and nose. Children aged 2 and younger will not be required to wear a mask, but they will be asked to enjoy the museum from a stroller or carrier. Masks can be removed from young children if they remain in a stroller or carrier.
Q. What are the Institute’s cleaning procedures and policies?
A. In addition to the Institute’s housekeeping procedures, staff members will be walking around the museum at all times, while the museum is open to the public, disinfecting high touchpoint areas, e.g. railings, door handles, interactive elements of exhibits, elevator buttons, etc.
Q. Will hand sanitizer be available?
A. Yes. Hand sanitizer dispensers will be placed at key employee and visitor entrances, and high-contact areas.
Q. How often will the public restrooms be cleaned?
A. Housekeeping will be disinfecting the door and sink handles hourly.
Q. Will guests be required to have their temperature taken upon arrival?
A. No. If guests feel sick or are under the weather, we ask that you do not visit the Institute of Science.

Q. What experiences will be available during my visit to the Institute of Science?
A. Our educators and staff are in the process of creating memorable experiences for you and your family that will be available when the Institute reopens. Please check our website and social media channels for updates when more information is available.
Q. Will the Reflections Cafe be open?
A. Reflections Cafe will be closed until further notice. We will update our website when more information becomes available.
Q. Will the Acheson Planetarium be open?
A. The planetarium will be closed during our initial reopening phase, but we are finalizing plans to reopen the planetarium later this summer. We will update our website when more information becomes available.
Q. Will exploreLAB be open?
A. exploreLAB will be closed until further notice. We will update our website when more information becomes available.
