Cranbrook Institute of Science 

Q. Will guests be required to wear a mask?
A. Face coverings are strongly encouraged, however, not required if you are fully vaccinated. All guests aged three and older who are not fully vaccinated are required to wear a face covering for the duration of their visit. And we encourage children under age three, who are not wearing a face covering, to remain in a stroller or carrier for the duration of their visit.

Q. What are the current hours?
A. The Institute of Science will be open Wednesday - Sunday with the following hours:

  • Wednesdays and Thursdays: 10:00am - 1:00pm; and 2:00 - 5:00pm
  • Fridays: 10:00am - 1:00pm; 2:00 - 5:00pm; and 6:00 - 9:00pm
  • Saturdays: 10:00am - 1:00pm and 2:00 - 5:00pm
  • Sundays: 12:00 - 4:00pm

Q. What days of the week will the Institute of Science be open?
A. The Institute of Science will be open Tuesday through Sunday.

Q. Do I need to pre-register to visit the museum?
A. No. As of July 1, 2021, guests no longer have to pre-register to visit the museum. However, guests will still be required to pre-register for Free First Friday by going to https://science.cranbrook.edu/free-first-friday. We look forward to seeing you!

Q. Will Reflections Cafe be open?
A. Reflections Cafe will open to the public July 7, 2021. Cafe hours of operation:

  • Wednesdays and Thursdays: 11:00am - 5:00pm
  • Fridays: 11:00am - 9:00pm
  • Saturdays: 11:00am - 5:00pm
  • Sundays: 12:00 - 4:00pm

Q. Is the Acheson Planetarium open?
A. Yes! The Acheson Planetarium is now open. Please visit https://science.cranbrook.edu/explore/acheson-planetarium for shows and show times.

Q. Is the observatory open?
A. The observatory will be closed until further notice. We will update our website when more information becomes available.

Q. Is exploreLAB open?
A. exploreLAB will be closed until further notice. We will update our website when more information becomes available.

Q. Do I have to pre-register for Free First Friday?
A. Yes. All guests will need to pre-register for Free First Friday, courtesy of MASCO Corporation. Please visit https://science.cranbrook.edu/free-first-friday to register.

Q. Will hand sanitizer be available?
A. Yes. Hand sanitizer dispenser will be placed at key employee and visitor entrances, and high-contact areas.
