We’re teaming up with the Cranbrook Art Museum for FREE Third Thursday! Every third Thursday of the month, visitors can receive free admission to Cranbrook Institute of Science from 5:00 – 8:00pm AND the Cranbrook Art Museum from 11:00am - 8:00pm, courtesy of the Community Foundation of Southeast Michigan. In honor of the Winter Solstice (Dec. 21), this month’s event will feature hands-on, winter-themed activities:

  • Why do the nights grow longer and the air becomes colder during winter? Experiment with globes, flashlights, and thermometers to understand the reasons for the seasons.
  • Find the light in the darkness through stargazing! Explore the stars behind the constellations, make a tracing, and learn about an unexpected Native American star story.
  • Craft a led-powered paper lantern to guide you on your journey for more Winter Solstice celebrations at the Cranbrook Art Museum!

And check out our newest exhibit, Galileo: Scientist, Astronomer, Visionary. Galileo is open during regular museum hours and has an additional cost of $5 - $8 per person.

Reserve your spot today!

Walk-ins are welcome! Due to capacity limits, entrance is not guaranteed.

Tickets for our 6:00pm and 7:00pm planetarium shows will be available for purchase at the front desk.
