Give your inquisitive camper the opportunity to explore popular science topics in a unique and safe environment. Kids entering kindergarten through eighth grade can join us for one week, or more, as weekly activities do not repeat!

Explore Science - Outdoors!  - NEW FOR 2019!

Cranbrook’s 319-acres will become your camper’s hangout during this adventure-focused week. Explore rivers, ponds, and woodlands, and develop a deeper understanding of what it takes for all living things to survive the elements – including US!

Campers will practice archery, identify plants and animal tracks, sketch specimens, and learn analog navigational techniques. Additionally, campers will enjoy a private show in the Acheson Planetarium and a behind-the-scenes tour of survival artifacts.

Calling all curious campers! Join us for unique, themed programs where campers tackle activities, experiments, and investigations while making meaningful discoveries during these fun-filled weeks. They’ll discover the wonders across Cranbrook’s campus as they become geologists, chemists, biologists, and physicists.

A private show in the Acheson Planetarium, an interactive physics program, and a visit to exploreLAB: Dinosaurs and Fossils (our paleontology-themed exhibition), are part of each week.

To enhance the camp experience, campers will be divided by age: Entering Kindergarten, entering 1st - 2nd grade, and entering 3rd - 5th grade.

Each week focuses on different scientific disciplines with age-appropriate adaptations. Join us for one week, two, or all five!

Topics and related activities will be tailored to meet the level and needs of each age group. Each week will focus on the featured topic, but related areas of science may be investigated as well.

Here’s what your camper can expect for each topic:

Biology – Explore our planet and the living things that call Earth home. Enjoy nature walks, search for “water bugs” at the pond, make recycled crafts, and more.

Chemistry – Learn why matter matters! This messy, fun week will incorporate measuring, mixing, and observing changes – big and small! Make solutions, study properties, and produce some gases – oh my!

Geology – Spend your week digging up the past! Expect activities, games, and experiments revolving around rocks and minerals that connect to anthropology and paleontology.

Physics – What causes objects to move? Explore forces and motion by constructing sailboats, flinging marshmallows, launching miniature rockets, and more.

Science Sampler – Does your curious camper want to experience multiple-ologies in one week? Then Science Sampler is for them! This week takes the “greatest hits” from previous summers (think dinosaur digs, Oobleck, engineering challenges, and more) and combines them with new, soon-to-be favorites.

Before and After Care

To accommodate families’ schedules, campers are welcome to join the Institute’s Before and After Care. Before and After Care are staffed by CPR/First Aid-certified counselors.
