Monster myths, cockroach races, medieval-style warfare and a haunted roller coaster in space are all part of the Institute’s 2010 Halloween Science event on Oct. 23. For better flexibility in planning their evening of scary science, visitors select from one of two sessions of two hours each from 3-5pm or 6-8pm. The creepiest educational experience the Institute offers, this year’s event features Dr. Kelp debunking favorite myths and misconception about mummies, the wolfman, Dracula and the Creature from the Black Lagoon; science demo stations (liquid nitro, dry ice, hair raising Van de Graff, glowing rocks); Make and Take activities; a scavenger hunt; a special virtual roller coaster ride in the planetarium, trick or treating and much more! Throughout the evening visitors can enter the Bat Zone of delve into the ultimate in scary reality by wandering among the more than 60 dinosaurs in the World of Dinosaurs exhibit. Outside, the Institute’s three-ton trebuchet, a modern version of a medieval siege weapon, will hurl pumpkins and medicine balls into the air!

Halloween Science tickets for preregistered attendees are $10 per child and $2 per adult for Members, and $13 per child and $5 per adult for non Members.

A limited number of walk up spaces will be available at $5 per adult and $13 per child for Members, and $8 per adult and $16 per child for non Members. Early registration is encouraged for this very popular event!

Only pre-registered guests are guaranteed a goody bag. ScreamPark360 planetarium tickets are included with preregistered bookings but seating is limited and tickets will be distributed on a first come, first served basis the night of the event.

Reflections Cafe will be open.

Please note: the Institute of Science will be closed to the public on Sat., Oct. 23 until the start of Halloween Science at 3pm.
