Unfortunately, you cannot use your membership for admission or programs on a group field trip. However, your membership can be used in the gift shop where you'll receive a 10% discount.
It takes 2-4 weeks to process new memberships. You may use your sales receipt as your membership card or you may request a temporary card until the permanent card arrives.
We have one adult wheelchair and one child-size wheelchair available on a first-come, first-served basis. We do not have any strollers.
Yes. We have a small café offering soup, sandwiches, pizza and snacks. Café hours change seasonally and can be found here. We also have vending machines offering snacks, water and soda.
During the school year, the non-peak hours are from 3-5pm weekdays and 10-11:00am and 3-5pm weekends. During the summer, non-peak hours are weekends.
If your home science center is a member of the Association of Science-Technology Centers (ASTC), then you may use your card for admission only at the same level (i.e. if you have a family membership at your home institution, you have family admission here). You will not be able to receive member discounts on astronomy, entertainment or live bat shows, or gift shop purchases. You must bring your card with you.
The museum has many exhibits that are interesting to young children including dinosaurs, beautiful minerals and rocks, a special astronomy planetarium program for young children, entertainment shows in the planetarium, live animals (in Bat Zone) and puzzles and games. In addition, we try to offer a variety of temporary exhibits that appeal to all ages in our Changing Exhibit hall. Check the Featured Exhibit page for what is currently showing.
All of the specimens in the Mineral Gallery are crystals! While they have a repeated structural pattern on the atomic level, they're not always reflected in their external shapes.

Cranbrook Institute of Science frequently receives requests from individuals who want to buy star names or name stars after other persons. Some commercial enterprises purport to offer such services for a fee. However, such "names" have no formal or official validity whatsoever.
